Road Closures on 9 May 2017 – But We’re Still Open

On Tuesday 9 May the Pearl Izumi cycle race takes to the streets of Redditch. This means local roads are closed. But the practice is still open for patients as usual. If you are coming by car please use Car Park 7.

Our Celebrations Had Everyone Smiling!

We celebrated in style on Saturday 24 September last year with a party for patients and colleagues from across the years.

We are the oldest dental practice in Redditch and some party guests have been coming to us for more than 40 years. They included former Mayor of the town, “Auntie” Madge Tillsey MBE. She talked about her fondness for the team who, she said, offer a winning mix of service, friendship, hospitality Mrs Usha Khosla, Dr Dinesh Phakkey, Dr Sarbjit Phakkey and Madge Tillsley cut the Dentist @Redhouse 70th anniversary cakeand kindness.

Her message to us was simple “Keep going – don’t pack up!”

Drs Dinesh and Sarbjit Phakkey took over Redhouse in 1990 from the late Dr Dev Khosla. Mrs Khosla also spoke of her delight to see it expand and develop while still retaining the community-focused values and standards of care that her husband established.

Dr Dinesh Phakkey reflected on the current team: “We have a cumulative experience of more than 160 years!” he said “I’ve also been looking back in the records and discovered that, since 1990, more than 31,000 patients had walked through our familiar red door. I’m proud to have such a hardworking and caring team and delighted to be paying tribute to them in this significant year. It’s also wonderful that many of our patients have joined us today. We look forward to many more years here on Prospect Hill.”

No party is complete without a cake, even a dentists’ party! Everyone was treated to a slice, as well as food and celebratory fizz. And underneath balloons and bunting the Dr Teeth Big Band kept toes tapping with their own brand of rhythm & blues, jazz, funk and soul. The party continued well into the afternoon, with guests given goodie bags (with treats for their teeth including toothbrushes and toothpaste) to remind them of why Dentist@Redhouse is the place for healthy smiles!

 Sharing Anniversary
Memories….

The Team at Redhouse “Do the Job for Me!”

According to long-standing patient Mrs Grevena Willis the Redhouse team “do the job for me”! She’s been a patient for 47 years. Back then she saw Dr Khosla and when Dr Phakkey took over Redhouse she continued to come to the practice, describing him as “brilliant”. These days she sees Dr Sarbjit Phakkey and is equally happy with her treatment.

Like many patients Mrs Willis remembers the school dentists of the 1950s, the approach back then was very different from the modern dentistry offered at Redhouse. Not pleasant! She’s happy to be able to share her positive experience of Redhouse with her family. Her daughter has been coming since she was a child and now brings her own son.

Thankfully Mrs Willis’ memories of those school dentists have been replaced by 47 years of Redhouse care. We look forward to seeing her and her family for many more years to come.

Special Connections….

Mrs Usha Khosla has a very special connection to Redhouse, her late husband owned the practice from 1969, before passing it to Dr Phakkey in 1990.

There can be no doubt that our positive reputation with, our welcoming team and caring professional approach, can be traced back to Dr Dev Khosla. Mrs Khosla describes him a ‘people person’ always wanting to help others, he played an active role in the community.

He left many legacies for Redhouse – as well as its excellent reputation, he also employed Mandy and Dawn, (left) who celebrated 25 years with us last year. Mrs Khosla reveals that he was only supposed to take on one receptionist but didn’t have the heart to let the other down. So we can be thankful to Dr Khosla!

Redhouse was very different back then, occupying just the first floor of the building.

Sadly Dr Khosla passed away in 2007 however his family continues his passion for dentistry, numbering no fewer than six dentists amongst the younger generations! One niece was even inspired to become a dentist after her work experience at Redhouse. She is now practicing in Reading.

Mrs Khosla, who is a lecturer, continues to be a Redhouse patient. Over the years she has had many treatments. “It’s like home to me,” she says, “I dial a telephone number I’ve known for 40 years. I’m always treated well and always have the utmost confidence in Dr Phakkey. My husband had great respect for him and I am delighted to see that the practice continues to thrive under his care.”
